THE STORE BY THE SHORE
THIS IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE BEACH STORE IT IS A STORE BUILT WITH DREAMS, IMAGINATION AND LOVE.
THIS IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE BEACH STORE IT IS A STORE BUILT WITH DREAMS, IMAGINATION AND LOVE.
When we purchased the business, it was only a little convenience store with a few groceries and fishing supplies. It also had a laundromat.
Then the dreams began...
what could we add to this little store?
Then the dreams began...
what could we add to this little store?
The first year;
We added shelving in the store (No more mis-matched chip racks) yes something as simple as shelving was on the bucket list.
We went from a burger and hotdog menu to a full menu offering all day breakfasts, sandwiches, wraps, salads, home-made burgers, munchies and homemade pizzas.
We quickly ran out of room and started with a renovation where we closed in the 8’ x 16’ deck and expanded our ice cream area and sales with soft serve and 16 flavors of hard ice cream, and 8 flavors of slush puppies.
Then when opportunity arose, we added a storage facility which offers locked daily, monthly and yearly storage for your RV’s, and boats.
In 2017, we purchased a 1929 Cedar Plank Boat from Thousand Island Boat Tours from the mighty St. Lawrence River and brought her home to sit on the shore of Lake Diefenbaker at Douglas Provincial Park. She is an amazing piece of Canadian Tourism history from the early 1900’s. The boat was dry docked for approximately 8 years before we purchased her and had her hauled to Saskatchewan. The Dam Boat now acts as a beacon and can be seen from many points on Lake Diefenbaker.
In 2022-2023 we added an 18-hole sports-themed lay of the land mini golf course. Many of the obstacles were donated by locals or purchased from local recreation boards. It looks easy but we are told it a fun course and quite a challenge.
One of the Biggest Dreams and uses of our imagination was the addition of BAKER’S BAR PATIO in 2025 (Larry Baker built the original business in 1985 and sold it in 2000). We thought we would honor his Dreams and Imagination by naming the patio in memory of him.
The patio is for licensed dining and we offer a vast variety of beer, coolers, wine and cocktails to accompany your meals. We also offer OFF SALE for the campers who forgot or have run out of beer, coolers or liquor.
BAKERS PATIO is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to store closing.
We continue to serve our park family and friends, 2026 marks our 17th year of
LOVE, DREAMS AND IMAGINATION.
WHAT DO WE ADD NEXT???
